Celebrity Brands

Generally through this week I have seen a few different kinds of tweets from the celebrity personalities I followed. The three kinds I have seen are promotions, interactions with others users in different threads, and tweets reflecting their personality. Some accounts do more than others in different categories yet they are all for brand building, or atleast have that effect. For Example, Dwyane Johnson has dozens of tweets replying to congratulations from other celebrities for winning entertainer of the year. Yet DJ Khaled has used his recent tweets to promote companies and even events that he will be at. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Neil deGrasse Tyson has only been tweeting out scientific facts, which play into his reason for being famous, and what most would expect from someone in his field. This expresses personality, as does the Rock's "thank you"s, showing their interests or their interactions with people that are important to them. I see these as authentic showings of these celebrities as people. I view the endorsements and promotions as less genuine because they are pushing products because they are being paid, not necessarily because they believe in that product or company. They are using their status to persuade their audience to buy something or spend money at certain places. Although these are all over social media and only face to screen, or maybe media like picture, interactions there is a visible difference in the style of tweet. Philip Defranco (a Youtuber) tweets telling his fan that he has released a new video, but I don't see it as pushing a product because Youtube is the site that he puts out his real content, and he also has tweets just about his life and things that show his fans who he is. Through tweeting dialogue or conversations, creating a thread for hypophora, rhetorical questions spurring on conversations, sharing wisdom with sententias or gifs/pictures using exemplum to further a point I think each tweet is helping me see more into the personality of these twitter personalities while also building up their brand in my eyes.
