Book > Movie?

When thinking about books and their movie counterparts I generally side with movies, although nothing I so dearly love has been adapted so maybe I just lack the passion. The one time I specifically remember leaving the theatre disappointed was after the first Hunger Games movie. Of course everyone had their own idea of how District 12 should look and how each character should be represented but thats not what bothered me. Yes there were some differences from the character description and actors and actresses that represented these beloved characters but what really irked me was that there were plot details left out and characters forgotten. There was no mention of (spoiler alert) the mutes from the very beginning or characters like Thresh (I believe that was the name) who were completely skipped over. I do understand that there is a limited run time and taking some parts out, either due to the fact that only including some would confuse the audience and including all would take too long and that some of the intense violence and murder was taken out of the film to retain the PG 13 rating, I felt as though there were holes from Susan Collin's original idea for the series. Although I did not continue reading through the series I enjoyed the movies. The small holes and lack of some details may still have been there but I didn't know them so I was unbothered, they told a complete story that was overall pretty well written. Some things can be adapted really seamlessly, others run into dumps on the road and may end up ruining an old time favorite.
