This is a short story written by Ernest Hemingway, its intended to tell a story in less than 10 words. The audience could be people who generally enjoy his work, poetry lovers, or an audience that relates to this incredibly sad feeling or relating to this event of losing a child. This definitely relies on pathos, tugging at your heart string at what you interpret to be a terribly sad story. The media is text and mode could either be in a book or on the internet. The simplicity of this piece really allows the reader to fill in the blanks with whatever they might think happened. Maybe it was a miscarriage or tragic accident, all that we are told is that there are baby shoes being sold that were never worn by the person they were bought for. This short story really has a dark and depressing feel, the word choice is very deliberate in keeping it short while not loosing any meaning. I think this piece could easily be adapted into a photoessay, taking pictures of a nursery or other things a baby would need and having them remain unopened, maybe dust has even fallen over them because it has been a while sine anyone has handled them. Or even this could be adapted into a short video, maybe an interview with a couple or young family and how such a loss affected them.
